One of the most storied clubs in all of national champions for the first time, and defended their title in 1919. In 1918-19, they managed a historic undefeated season in the AFC Ajax stats.
Ajax were successful in the 1930s and managed to win five national championships, the most of any team. They became a founding member of the Eredivisie in 1956, and are now the most successful Dutch soccer club in the history of the competition. Rinus Michaels, who managed Ajax starting in the late 60s, is credited with introducing the famous “Total Football”. Ajax players were technically proficient and able to interchange positions as a result.
Under Michaels, Ajax won three straight Eredivisie titles from 1965-66 to 1967-68. They also managed a record 122 goals in the AFC Ajax stats in the 1966-67 season. Johan Cruijff became an iconic player during this time, and is widely regarded as Ajax’s best-ever player.
On a continental level, Ajax found their most success in the early 1970s, towards the end of Cruijff’s Ajax career. They won three straight European Cups in 1971, 1972, and 1973, ing Bayern Munich as the only three clubs to pull off the feat. Ajax also won five Eredivisie and four KNVB Cup titles in the 1970s.
Cruijff returned as manager in 1985, and the team won two KNVB Cups and a European Cup Winners’ Cup under him. With a Champions League.
As of 2022, Ajax have won a record 36 national titles and 20 KNVB Cups. With former manager Erik ten Hag having set off to Champions League odds are available.
