The Rudl brothers founded AC Sparta Prague in 1893. Sparta Prague were referred to as Iron Sparta in the 1920s and 30s due to their dominance. The first title in the Sparta Prague stats is from the 1912 season. In the 20s and 30s combined, they won seven Czech league titles.
Sparta also won the Mitropa Cup in 1927 and 1935, which was a predecessor to UEFA competitions. The annual tournament featured some of the best Central European clubs. Sparta enjoyed moderate success in the 1950s and 60s, with two league titles in each decade. They also won their first Czechoslovak Cup in the Sparta Praha stats in 1964.
The 70s were an up and down period for Sparta Prague. They won the Czechoslovak Cup in 1972 and subsequently reached the semifinals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup. However, they were relegated for the first time in 1975. Sparta lasted just one season in the second tier before moving back up and improved heavily in the 80s.
During the 80s, Sparta won five Czech league titles and four Czechoslovak Cups. They regularly played in European competitions and reached the quarterfinals of the 1984-85 European Cup. In 1992, they nearly reached the final of the European Cup and won eight of the 10 possible Czech titles in the 90s.
From 1997 to 2006, Sparta Prague played in theUEFA Conference League qualifiers.
AC Sparta Prague have never finished lower than fifth in the Czech League. They’ve finished third three times in the last four seasons and haven’t won a league title since 2014. Their most recent trophy was the 2020 Czech Cup. Betting advice often mentions their solid record at home, since they lost just one match there in 2021-22.
