With working-class origins, Rapid Wien was founded in 1897 as Erster Wiener Arbeiter-Fußball-Club. The club took their current name, SK Rapid Wien, in 1899. Rapid Vienna won the first-ever Austrian national championship in the 1911-12 season. They retained their title in 1913, and added three more championships to the SK Rapid Wien stats in the 1910s.
While not necessarily true today, Austria was one of the best soccer countries in the early 20th century. During that time, Rapid Vienna became the country’s dominant club. They won three consecutive league titles from 1919 to 1921, and won the Austrian Cup in 1919 and 1920.

After WWII, Rapid Vienna and the rest of the Austrian teams reformed the Austrian Football Championship. The first European appearance in the Rapid Vienna stats was in the 1954-55 European Cup. They reached the quarterfinals and then reached the semifinals of the 1960-61 European Cup. The 60s were one of the club’s best decades, with a total of seven trophies.
Rapid Vienna made their first European final in the 1984-85 Cup Winners’ Cup. However, they lost 3-1 to Everton, and 11 years later they lost in the final to RB Salzburg, though, Rapid haven’t won a league title since 2008. Meanwhile, their last Austrian Cup win was in 1995.
In both 2020-21 and 2021-22, Rapid Vienna participated in the Europa League group stage. They finished third in their group on both occasions, and last advanced to the knockout rounds in the 2018-19 season.
With a fifth-place finish in the Austrian Bundesliga in 2021-22, Rapid Vienna placed in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers. Regarding the Europa League odds in the 2022-23 season, betting advice should mention the fact that Rapid Vienna had their worst goal difference last season for 18 years.
