Lobos are a horrible 3-18-1 ATS last two seasons
The New Mexico Lobos finished the 2023 season 2-10, including all eight of the games inside the Mountain West Conference. It was the fifth straight losing season for the program and the second under head coach Danny Gonzalez who is heading into his third season in Albuquerque.
The Lobos last winning season was in 2016 when they finished 9-4. Since the program is 13-42 overall (5-34 MWC). Against the spread, New Mexico is 24-53-1 ATS over the last seven seasons, 4-19 ATS on the road.
They’ll need to improve on their 2-13 ATS mark as a home favorite before they can begin to make noise in the Mountain West Conference.

Lobos Set to Be One of The Worst in College Football
The New Mexico future odds are set as the worst in New Mexico State.
Their winnable games will be against the Aggies, Hawaii at home, and maybe at Nevada at leading at the half in 2022 (13-10). They eventually lost 27-20, but they covered as a 17.5-point dog while playing their best game of the season.
Where to start with Gonzalez’s team, an offense that ranked 131st in College Football, averaging just 228.5 yards per game is a good way to start. If MWC opponents are getting a team that averages 13.1 points per game, bettors will be pounding their opposition as they have over the past seven years.
The Lobos will be relying on a defense that isn’t that bad, ranking 47th overall and 30th against the . An incredible feat considering they were on the field almost 31 minutes a game. It was the second straight season the defense was taking the majority of playing time.
Until the offense takes on more time of possession, the Lobos are a long way from competing for a .500 season. New Mexico won’t be on the winning side of many NCAAF scores in 2023, making the only intelligent way to bet on the Lobos this season under their projected win total of 3.5. (-120). Last year, New Mexico’s projected season win total was 3 (under -120), we’re not sure where the increased confidence is coming from but it would be a hard sell to find four wins on this year’s schedule.
